The One (The Selection #3) by Kiera Cass
The time has come for one winner to be crowned.
When she was chosen to compete in the Selection, America never dreamed she would find herself anywhere close to the crown–or to Prince Maxon’s heart. But as the end of the competition approaches, and the threats outside the palace walls grow more vicious, America realizes just how much she stands to lose–and how hard she’ll have to fight for the future she wants.
What you’re in for: Romance. Competition. Friendship. Emotion. Fancy dresses and tea parties. Dangerous rebels. A lovable main character with realistic flaws. Surprises. A captivating story that will hook you until the end!
The Girls: We get to see more of who the girls really are in this one. More insight into each of them, individually. We see new things and surprises in these remaining girls.
I especially like how we get to see a different side to Celeste in this book. A more real — and even likeable — Celeste.
America is frustrating and lovable and real. Though I don’t always agree with her choices (and sometimes want to slap or strangle her), I think she’s a good main character.
The Boys: If you read my other reviews, you know that I’m team Maxon. He did make me question my choice for a moment in The Elite, but it was always Maxon in the lead for me. There were no moments like that in this book; team Maxon all the way!
Aspen is just too frustrating. His choices when it comes to America just don’t seem right. And he’s just not as interesting of a character as Maxon, in my opinion. America deserves better than Aspen!
The Ending: Satisfying for some; unsatisfying for others — it all depends which team you’re on!
Am I glad I read it? Absolutely! I love this series. I’m a sucker for romance and this series has a lot of that, and it’s done well. This book did the series justice for sure. It was a great end to a great series! I’m sad that it’s over!
