Sometimes the act of Reading makes me want to talk about Reading

Sometimes the act of Reading makes me want to talk about Reading
21 April, 2015 / 3 Comments

Sometimes, when I’m reading, I just have an urge to talk about reading, books, or bookish things.  Does this ever happen to you?  For whatever reason, you just need to talk about books or reading, even if you’re in the middle of a chapter?  This drives my husband crazy, because usually we read together and he is not a reading-talker like me, so all I do is distract him from his book.  But I just can’t help it! I think the reasons for this occurring can be narrowed down to a solid two categories: I’m just not all that into […]

My Pattern for Buying Books

My Pattern for Buying Books
14 April, 2015 / 2 Comments

I totally have a pattern for buying books.  Unless a sequel is coming out that I’m super pumped about and just cannot wait to read it, I typically always stick to my little pattern.  I don’t mean to; it just kind of happens. My pattern I go check my email and see that there is an email from Kobo telling me about a promotion! I click on the link that takes me to the books that are on sale or that the promotion code applies to. I browse through the list of selected books, adding to my cart any that I […]

Awkward Breaks in Dialogue

Awkward Breaks in Dialogue
26 February, 2015 / 1 Comment

You know those awkward sentences where the speaker begins the dialogue with (usually) one word, then the narrator cuts in before the speaker is able to finish his/her sentence?  This is a huge pet peeve of mine while reading. It completely jars me out of the reading zone whenever I come across this style of writing. I can’t stand dialogue that is broken up by the narrator. Do you know what I mean? Here’s a made-up example: “How,” Bob asked, “are you doing today?” Why does the author choose to write it this way? It doesn’t add anything to the […]

People who Specifically Avoid what’s Popular just Because it’s Popular

People who Specifically Avoid what’s Popular just Because it’s Popular
10 December, 2014 / 1 Comment

Have you ever met someone who specifically avoids anything that is popular just because it’s popular?  This way of thinking completely baffles me.  I know someone like this. Someone who directly avoids anything “pop.” He admits it freely and seems proud of it. It is for this reason that when I told him to read The Hunger Games (my all-time favourite series), he said he didn’t want to because it probably sucks because it’s too pop. It took me 8 months to convince him, and finally now he is reading the books. And guess what? He loves them. I don’t […]

Why I Love the Book Blogging Community

Why I Love the Book Blogging Community
3 December, 2014 / 4 Comments

You don’t Judge It’s funny, because as book bloggers, we are constantly giving our opinions (whether it be in our blog posts or commenting on someone else’s blog post).  But, we don’t judge in a bad way.  Do you know what I mean?  We write our thoughts about books and book-related things all the time, whether it be negative or positive thoughts.  But, rarely do you see a blogger commenting on someone else’s blog negatively.  They may not agree and voice that disagreement, but (almost) always in a friendly and conversational manner.  Not in a rude way that puts you […]

Do YA Books have Prettier Covers than Adult Books?

Do YA Books have Prettier Covers than Adult Books?
19 November, 2014 / 5 Comments

I don’t know what it is about Young Adult book covers, but I just find myself drawn to them. They seem, to me, to be so much prettier than Adult book covers. YA                               Adult        Whenever I go into a bookstore or library, even if I’m specifically looking for an Adult book, I always find myself looking at the YA books. I just can’t help myself! The covers just make me want to buy them all. YA             […]

My Edgar Allan Poe Challenge

My Edgar Allan Poe Challenge
30 October, 2014 / 1 Comment

I have decided to challenge myself to reading all of Edgar Allan Poe’s stories (just the stories, not the poems…I’m not a huge fan of poetry)!  I’m pretty excited about this, you guys.  I’ve always considered myself a fan of Poe’s work, but, in reality, I think I’ve only ever read two of his short stories and one poem.  How can I really proclaim myself as a fan when I have read such a small portion of his very large collection of work??  So, I got thinking and I came up with this challenge for myself and what better time […]

Moving Away From YA?

Moving Away From YA?
22 October, 2014 / 0 Comments

I’m Surrounded and Dominated by YA I’ve been thinking this through a lot lately.  My reading and blog have been dominated by Young Adult books for so long and I do truly love YA.  In fact, I think all of my favourite books are YA.  And The Hunger Games is what kicked me into my ultimate reading frenzy!  But, lately, I’ve been feeling the need to read more Adult books.  I still want to read YA.  I mean, my bookshelf and Goodreads “to-read” shelf are stacked with YA books, so I definitely will read more YA.  But, this is also […]
