A Look Back at September 2018

1 October, 2018 / 15 Comments

Wow – September went by fast, didn’t it?  I can’t believe it’s October already!  And man, it’s been a long time since I’ve said that.  It seems as though time has really slowed down since my daughter came along – haha!  I guess things really do get better as they get older!  September went by so fast!

I’m excited to do some Halloween nail art this month.  With this dry weather, a couple of my nails broke, so I filed them all down.  Ugh.  As soon as they grow back I have some big plans for Halloween nail art!!

I didn’t get a whole lot of reading done again this month.  I think I read maybe 2 books.  Sigh…I really need more time in a day!  I think I’m all out of my build-up of reviews now too, so now my reviews will actually be dependent upon how much time I have to read.  So, it might not be every week anymore, but we’ll see!  I’m going to try!  Oh well, someday I’ll have more time to read again.  Right now, I need to focus on being more happy with my life as it is.  My daughter gets more and more amazing every day and I love watching her grow and learn things.  This month she learned a bunch of her colours!  I think now she knows (and can actually remember) blue, pink, yellow, orange, and brown.  Green and red are maybes – sometimes we need to remind her.  I’m so proud of her!  It’s so much fun seeing her recite the things she learns.  And man is she ever talking all of a sudden too!  It’s crazy how much she’s learned this month.  I’m amazed.

One thing that aided in slowing down my reading this month was after reading this great post over at That Bookshelf Bitch, I got really into using spreadsheets!  I borrowed her sheets and modified them to suit my needs (honestly, they look quite different from hers, but she totally still gets the credit!), then I put all my data in them that I’ve been keeping track of randomly in other places (Goodreads, Google Keep, Google Calendar, etc.).  Now I’m more organized and loving these spreadsheets!!

This month I also went (almost) sugar free!  That’s right, I now drink black coffee – what?!  Anyway, I’ve been considering incorporating that into my blog somehow.  Maybe sharing recipes or tips for going sugar free.  Let me know if you’d be interested in reading about that!

  1. Perhaps you should consider reviewing the books that you read with your daughter. I know other bloggers who do that and their read counts are huge each month. See my September wrap up at Girl Who Reads

Thanks for the tip! I’ve actually been thinking of doing something along those lines. I don’t think I would review each book individually, because they would likely be very short reviews, but I could do groupings of them for sure!

Those manicures look excellent, I’m so jealous (my nailbeds are very small, so I just can’t even attempt these even when I grow my nails longer).
Oooh, (almost) sugar-free, that’s impressive! I’m not being sarcastic, it really is huge, because *eeeeverything* has sugar tday, even things you don’t suspect!

Thank you! That’s too bad about your nail beds, but I’m sure you could find some way of working around it, no?
I know – it’s crazy, isn’t it? Going (almost) sugar free is a big deal!!

  3. I love spreadsheets and I am definitely going right away to check the one you have attached. I do almost everything with Google sheets.

Your daughter sounds like a handful and I am glad you are having a good time.

I’m really loving Google Sheets too! You say you do almost everything with Google Sheets – like what? I’m looking for more ways to incorporate it into my life! Haha.

Enjoy your time with your daughter! You will be saying goodbye to these fun times too soon. Picture books authors need reviews too, so I’d use those for reviews and posts to help these authors out too. You might even comment about things your daughter liked/pointed out/laughed at/questioned or even asked for multiple rereads. I have read and reviewed them myself, especially if the authors have provided me a copy.

  5. Yup nothing than kids to make time fly! 🙂 Yay Halloween nail art! That’ll be awesome! I cannot wait! I also want to see your sugar free recipes! This is my third month reading only 2 books as well. Sigh. But you are getting organized! Yay for spreadsheets! and also yay for beautiful things in life that get in the way of reading… Like kids! Enjoy your daughter!

Ugh – we’re halfway through October and I have yet to do any Halloween nail art. It’s so dry here and my nails keep breaking 🙁
I might just post some recipes or tips or something!
