Bookish Naughty List Tag

14 December, 2018 / 5 Comments

I first saw this post on Paper Fury, but it was created by Jenniely.  I have decided to tag myself and participate because it’s a super fun Christmas bookish tag!

Let’s see how naughty/nice I have been when it comes to bookish things…

Received an ARC and not reviewed it

I really try to read and review all my ARCs and I’ve actually been REALLY good about it lately.  But there have been times in my past when I have neglected an ARC or two…

Have less than 60% feedback rating on Netgalley

Okay, so remember how I said I have neglected an ARC or two in my past…well, that may have been an understatement.  You guys, when I first started blogging and found out about ARCs it was sooo exciting and I really got carried away and then did not have enough time to read all that I requested.  I really am a lot better now!!  And it’s going to take time to get that rating back up because I get most of my ARCs on Edelweiss these days!  If Edelweiss had a feedback rating system (they don’t, do they?), I would have a much higher rating on there!  My Netgalley feedback rating is currently sitting at 55%.  Gah – I’m ashamed!!

Rated a book on Goodreads and promised a full review was to come on your blog (and never did)

Nope!  I’m really good for posting reviews for books read!  I pretty much review every book I read, so this one isn’t a problem.  I do have some upcoming, but that’s because they’re ARCs and I like to wait until closer to the release date to post those.

Folded down the page of a book

I mean, when I was younger I did, but that was before I was the reader I am today.  Soooo I don’t think that should count.  I’m counting myself nice on this one because I would never do that now!

Accidentally spilled on a book

I don’t think I have ever spilled on a book!  Yay!

DNF a book this year

Oh yeah, I have definitely put down a few books this year.  I don’t like doing it, but I’ve come to a point where I’m okay with doing it because life is too short and I just don’t have enough time to read a book I’m not enjoying!

Bought a book purely because it was pretty with no intention of reading it

Uh – no?  I would never buy a book that I wouldn’t want to read!  Why would you not want to read it?  This one confuses me haha.

Read whilst you were meant to be doing something else (like homework)

Oh, totally guilty of this!  I should basically always be doing something other than reading.  Ugh.  Way too often I put off doing chores to read!

Skim read a book

There is the odd time I will do this…

Completely missed your Goodreads goal

Basically since becoming pregnant, I have been missing my goal consistently every year (and that’s after lowering my goals like crazy!).

In 2015 my goal was 70 and I only read 43 (so, I read 61% of my goal).  To be fair, I didn’t know I was going to get pregnant and become so tired I could barely function when I made that goal of 70!  Haha.

I significantly lowered my goal to 50 for 2016, thinking I would still have time to read while the baby slept, etc.  But, sleep deprivation combined with postpartum depression/anxiety had me barely reading at all for half of 2016.  I only read 35 books that year (70%).

Then, I lowered my goal even more for 2017, to 35 books.  Still suffering from PPD/A and then having to go back to work on top of it had me only reading 24 books (60%).

So, yes, I have failed at my goals in more recent years, but for good reason I think!  This year, I had an even lower goal of 25 books and I’m happy to say I’m crushing it!  I’ve read 44 books so far this year (176%).  Woohoo!  Still not anywhere near my record of 90 books in 2013, but that’s okay!  Life is so much different now!!

Borrowed a book and not returned it

Nope, never done this one!

Broke a book buying ban

I don’t ban myself from buying books – hahaha!

Started a review, left it for ages then forgot what the book was about

Nope!  I always write my review before moving on to the next book.  If I didn’t, then I would definitely forget vital info for my review!

Wrote in a book you were reading

Nope!  Only in textbooks, but that doesn’t count, does it?  If I need to make notes for a review, I use Google Keep for that!

Finished a book and not added it to your Goodreads

Oh yeah, back in my pre-blogging days I wasn’t aware of Goodreads.  Oh my – how did I survive!!

My Score:
Naughty: 7
Nice: 8

Looks like I deserve some books for Christmas, Santa!  🙂

  1. This was such a fun post! I always dog-ear my pages, so that one would definitely put me on the naughty list, and I have written in a few when I run out of sticky notes. Haha! My reading goes way down during and after a pregnancy, too. There’s just too much going on! Especially the last one because we had twins. I’ve also DNFd quite a few books this year… maybe I shouldn’t do this tag? 😉

  2. You do pretty well on this list! I think you’re naughty of a lot of the ones I approve of, like reading when you’re supposed to be doing something else. I am so impressed with how well you keep up with writing your reviews and making sure you post them. I wish I wrote my reviews like that and didn’t forget anything DD: I feel you on the Netgalley percentage struggles though 😛

Aww thanks so much! Honestly, if I didn’t write the review immediately after finishing the book, I would likely never write the review. I’m impressed that people can write reviews months (or however long) after reading a book. I would forget way too many important factors for sure!
