October 2018 BoxyCharm

26 October, 2018 / 2 Comments

I subscribe to a monthly beauty box called BoxyCharm and these posts are where I share what’s in the box and talk about my thoughts on the products!  While I have my go-to makeup products, I enjoy trying out new beauty products and get so excited when my BoxyCharm arrives.  Sometimes I find new favourites in these boxes!

I love these boxes because you get so much value for so little money!  The box is $21.00 USD per month and in this October box, I got $134.00 worth of product!  How amazing is that??  Okay, let’s get started…

It Cosmetics Superhero Elastic Stretch Volumizing Mascara

Description provided in the box: Wrap your lashes in lengthening, volume boosting and ultra-conditioning formula.  The Elastic Stretch Technology and the ultra-black tint make for the thickest and most defined lashes ever.
Retail Price: $24.00 USD

My thoughts: I’ve actually tried this mascara before and really liked it.  It lengthens and thickens and wears nicely throughout the day.  I’m glad to have received it in this month’s box.

Dermovia Lace a Peel Black Bamboo Charcoal Peel off Mask

Description provided in the box: The detoxifying Charcoal Peel Paste and Lace Compression Mask offers spa-like extraction results.  The naturally blended Peel Paste in conjunction with the Mask grips to the skin, helping to further draw out impurities for a deep decongestion and exfoliation experience.
Retail Price: $30.00 USD

My thoughts: I never seem to have very strong opinions on masks.  Yes, my skin feels nice and soft after, but do they really have lasting effects?  Are they really necessary to skincare?  I’m not sure.  This mask was interesting in that you first apply the paste and then put the lace mask over top, then the paste dries and sticks to the lace making it easier to remove.  I liked that aspect.  My skin did feel very soft afterwards, but I’m not sure it did much else.

Pur the Complexion Authority Midnight Masquerade Palette

Description provided in the box: This 10-piece face palette will take any look from natural and innocent to sultry and mysterious.  This limited-edition palette is arranged with highly pigmented and buildable shades that blend effortlessly into the face and eyelid for a look you’ll totally adore.  Making a bold statement has never been easier with four, shimmery face powders and six, buttery eyeshadows that compliment all skin tones and eye colours.
Retail Price: $38.00 USD

My thoughts: The highlighter is really nice.  It is blinding, so I would recommend it to people who like a blinding, dramatic highlight.  Not for every day wear, for me at least.  But it is a nice highlight.

The blush is super pigmented.  You have to go really easy with it.  I tend to prefer less pigmented blushes that I can build up to my liking, as I don’t like an obvious blush on my cheeks.  In general, I just like a very light blush to add a bit of colour.  But, these are nice blushes and they blend really easily.

The eyeshadow applied nicely and blended well.  It’s not really a palette you can use on its own, as there’s only the one matte shadow.  I found I needed to reach for a lighter, transition shade to get my desired look.  But the shadows are nice for what they are.  The shimmer shadows are pigmented and buttery.  Unfortunately, the shimmer shadows didn’t last as long as I would have liked and they creased by the end of the day.  The matte brown held up well though.

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick

Description provided in the box: Enjoy a smooth, creamy, lightweight liquid lipstick that stays on all day long.  The highly pigmented, began and cruelty free formula coats your lips in just one swipe, delivering the color you want and need.  It’s infused with vitamin E and sunflower seed oil, giving your lips the moisturizing comfort they deserve.
Retail Price: $20.00 USD

My thoughts: This is not a shade that I like to wear.  It’s too purple for my liking.  It applied nicely and evenly, but a bit flaky.  I’m not really sure how to explain that.  It felt nice, but then I took a closer look at it and it had some kind of flakes.  Almost like my lips were dry, but they weren’t.  I’m not sure what that’s about.

Farmacy Beauty Green Clean

Description provided in the box: This cult-favorite makeup cleansing balm melts away even the boldest of makeup looks.  It’s powerful enough to remove every last trace of long wear makeup, yet ultra-nourishing on your skin, leaving it hydrated and smooth.
Retail Price: $22.00 USD

My thoughts: This remover is so good!  It removed everything, even my mascara (which I find is always the most difficult to get off).  It just…melted everything away.  And it felt really nice on the skin too.  It didn’t feel greasy at all.  I don’t even think I needed to use soap after (but I always do anyway).  It says on the jar that it was made exclusively for BoxyCharm…does that mean I can’t buy it?  But it’s so good!  I seriously would love to use this as my go-to makeup remover!
