Today I bring you a post all about The XY by Virginia Bergin! Below you will find my review, information about the book and author, and a giveaway!
The XY has a very interesting concept that immediately grabbed my attention. Society is filled with females only. Males are kept separate and lead completely different lives. Males have only one purpose: to provide sperm in order to contribute to the human race.
Our narrator and main character, River, starts out very naive. She grows throughout the book and it’s nice to see how brave she becomes. The characters are well-done and develop well, particularly River.
I thought the story was really lacking. The writing and the overall concept was able to draw me in and keep me captivated, but I was very underwhelmed by the story as a whole. Nothing really happens (other than right at the beginning) until about 70% into the book. While I wasn’t bored, I am disappointed with the story. It had so much potential with such an interesting concept.
Best Aspect: Uniqueness
Worst Aspect: Story
About the book
She’s been taught to fear him.
He’s been taught to fear her.
What if they’re both wrong?
In River’s world, XYs are a relic of the past, along with things like war and violence. Thanks to the Global Agreements, River’s life is simple, safe, and peaceful…until she comes across a body in the road one day. A body that is definitely male, definitely still alive. River isn’t prepared for this. There’s nothing in the Agreements about how to deal with an XY. Yet one lies before her, sick, suffering, and at her mercy.
River can kill him, or she can save him. Either way, nothing will ever be the same.
