September 2018 BoxyCharm

26 September, 2018 / 2 Comments

I subscribe to a monthly beauty box called BoxyCharm and decided it would be fun to share what’s in the box and talk about my thoughts on the products!  I love these boxes because you get so much value for so little money!  The box is $21.00 USD per month and in this September box, I got $117.00 worth of product!  How amazing is that??  Okay, let’s get started…

Pretty Vulgar Nightingale Smokey Eyeshadow Palette

Description provided in the box: Made up of 12 highly pigmented shades, the Nightingale palette is sure to help you create your best looks.  The matte, shimmer and satin shades are soft in texture and the luxuriously smooth formula makes for easy blending and long-wear.
Retail Price: $35.00 USD

My thoughts: These shadows apply on the eye better than they swatch.  Some of the shadows swatched pretty patchy and I was afraid they were going to apply patchy too and be difficult to blend, but not at all!  The matte shades applied very nicely and blended really well.  The shimmer shade I used (clutch) is really pretty.  The shimmer shades definitely apply best using your finger.  I tried with a dry brush and it barely showed up.  I tried with a wet brush and it worked pretty good.  But the shadow really shined when I applied it with my finger.

This is a very cool-toned palette, which is less common in today’s market I think.  There are a lot of greys and cool browns and I can’t wait to experiment more with it.

Laura Geller Baked Blush-N-Brighten

Description provided in the box: Add a gorgeous, glowy flush to your cheeks with this baked blush.  Stunning swirls of liquid pigments are baked in Italy for 24 hours on terracotta tiles and hand-finished into a silky dome of powder.  This smooth and longwearing formula is paraben free, and infused with skin-loving antioxidants
Retail Price: $28.00 USD

My thoughts: This blush is very pigmented!  It applied so beautifully.  It’s a really pretty pink with shimmer in it.  I like how glowy it looks on my face, but I don’t like that it emphasizes texture.  I don’t even normally notice texture on my cheeks, but looking close up with this blush on, I can see texture!  However, you can only really see any texture from super close up.  It looks really pretty and it’s definitely still wearable.

Alamar Cosmetics Ojitos Brush Set

Description provided in the box: Made with 100% synthetic fibers, these brushes are extremely soft, durable and essential to your brush collection.  The flat painter brush effortlessly applies color onto your lids, while the fluffy blender brush can be used to seamlessly blend colors together.  The flat tight liner brush is perfect for direct color application on your lash lines.
Retail Price: $18.00 USD

My thoughts: All three brushes are so soft.  I like them all.  The big blending brush is a bit too floppy for my liking, but it’s good for blending the outside, lighter colours of an eye look.

I’m excited about the other two brushes.  They both worked really well and are better than similar brushes I already own.

Hank & Henry Liquid Lipstick

Description provided in the box: Have your cake and wear it too.  This frosting scented long-wear liquid lipstick glides on smoothly while its vitamin E infused formula gives your lips the youthful look they deserve.  It’s highly pigmented and dries to a stunning full-coverage matte finish that never dries your lips, and never transfers.
Retail Price: $17 USD

My thoughts: The colour I received is Petal Pusher.  I do wish BoxyCharm would give me other colours.  I always get lipsticks that are on the darker side and I rarely wear those.  I prefer light pinks and nudes for daily wear.  Having said that, I do actually like this color with this makeup (using the Pretty Vulgar palette).   They go together so well.  Cool smoky makeup with a dark lip – sexy!

This lipstick has no transfer.  It is comfortable to wear for a matte lip and it lasts so well – through eating and all day long!  I would love to try this in a different color.

Butter London Stroke of Wow Roll on Liner

Description provided in the box: Create precise, ultra-fine winged liner looks with this innovative liquid liner.  The ergonomic handle gives you insane control while creating your liner looks.  The roll-on applicator does all of the work for you while delivering a pitch-black pigment that meets even your boldest standards.  Created with a longevity complex, this quick-drying, smudge-proof formula is guaranteed to last.
Retail Price: $19 USD

My thoughts: This liner is so strange!  I found it quite difficult to use, since I’m not used to this style.  I’ve never used anything like this and I was actually stressed out trying to apply my liner with this tool.  I’m going to have to play with this more.  But I don’t know.  I’m not sure why they made it like this.  What’s wrong with the normal liners?  If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

  1. LOVE that eyeshadow and the lipstick is pretty too. The eyeliner sounds really interesting. I’m horrible at applying makeup—I can never get it to look the way it looks on other people—so I’m guessing a complicated application process would be bad news for me. 🙂

Haha – yeah, that eyeliner was not fun to use! Definitely wouldn’t recommend it, especially if you’re already not very comfortable with applying makeup!
